Mike Leach memories: HBO’s Hard Knocks, Arizona Cardinals remember mascot press conferences

Mike Leach memories continue to circulate around football, whether that’s college or the NFL.
The latest example came from the Arizona Cardinals and HBO’s Hard Knocks, which offers behind-the-scenes views of conversations during practice.
A couple of staff members recalled some of Leach’s most famous press conferences, including one about mascots, and which mascots should be promoted more, or even used more. Leach rattled off sharks and gorillas as a couple of examples.
“The buffalo, that’s hard to argue with unless you have a live grizzly bear out there,” Leach said.
One Arizona coach recalled, “He was fascinated by everything.”
Then another added, “That brilliant mind going everywhere.”
“Get him on the phone, he’d talk about everything but football.”
One thing about Leach’s press conferences and stories, they will continue to bring smiles to football coaches and fans alike who will remember his reaction to mascots and other obscure topics from the podium.
