Mike Leach praises Mark Stoops and his brothers for their defensive prowess
No. 16 Mississippi State will take its high-powered passing offense on the road Saturday night to face No. 22 Kentucky.
In the boxing world, they say styles make fights. If that’s the case in Lexington between the Bulldogs and Wildcats, it should turn out to be a highly competitive game.
After all, Kentucky will counter MSU’s aerial attack with what has been for the most part a fairly stingy defense.
During his media availability Monday in advance of the game, Bulldogs coach Mike Leach acknowledged that he has plenty of respect for Kentucky’s Mark Stoops as a defensive coach, adding that Stoops has some impressive siblings (Bob, Mike, and Ron Jr.) that he can always turn to for advice.
“Sharp,” said Leach when asked about the Stoops family from a defensive standpoint. “They’re kind of like one of the first families of defense type of deal. What makes it tougher is if they’re having a problem, they get on the phone and call any of two or three of their brothers and get a whole field of suggestions.”
