Mike Norvell expects Florida State’s Thomas Castellanos to be one of country’s best QBs
Mike Norvell wants to get back to the business of winning games at Florida State.
After winning double-digit games in 2022 and 2023, the Seminoles sank to new lows last fall in going 2-10 after starting the season ranked. Florida State’s head coach is heading into his sixth season in Tallahassee, and he could quickly be on the hot seat if 2025 starts the way 2024 ended. Then throw in the remodeling of iconic Doak Campbell Stadium and a season-opening showdown at home against Alabama, and there is a lot for Norvell to get done this offseason.
At the top of that list is finding a new quarterback to start winning again, and Norvell believes he has that signal caller in Boston College transfer Thomas Castellanos. A lower-body injury limited Castellanos last season, when he threw for 1,366 yards with 18 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. When Castellanos lost the starting job at BC, he opted to hit the transfer portal and stay in the ACC by jumping to Florida State.
And Norvell believes Boston College’s loss will be Florida State’s gain in 2025.
“Our expectations are for him to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country,” Norvell said on Thursday, per Warchant.
Norvell doesn’t see any lingering effects of how Castellanos left BC, either. The head coach only sees someone ready to take over this fall.
“He’s got great skill with his arm, with his legs. But the thing I’ve been so impressed with is just his leadership,” Norvell told Warchant.
This fall, we’ll find out if Castellanos is part of the answer in getting Florida State football back where it usually is. Florida State’s win total at DraftKings is set at 6.5. Want to bet on the Seminoles’ preseason win total? Check out our guide on the top Florida gambling apps.
