Mike Norvell reveals Squirrel White’s status for FSU’s Week 1 showdown with Alabama
Squirrel White knows what it’s like to defeat Alabama. At Tennessee last season, his Volunteers won “The Third Saturday in October” 24-17 over the visiting Crimson Tide. There’s no name for this Saturday’s season opener between Florida State and Alabama, but White will be there to help history repeat itself.
On Monday morning, Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell revealed White is expected to make his Florida State debut against the Crimson Tide. The transfer wideout reportedly “has done a great job” in his week of recovery from “a minor injury.”
White did not record a single catch in Tennessee’s victory over Alabama in 2024. But in 2023, he lit up the Crimson Tide to the tune of 10 receptions, 111 yards and a touchdown. Four of his grabs — and 60 of his yards, including his 39-yard score — came on the game’s opening possession.
Seminole fans hope to see fellow transfer Thomas Castellanos — who won Florida State’s 2024 home opener with Boston College, 28-13 — replicate those results with White on Saturday. The Crimson Tide’ faithful won’t care about White’s production, though, as long as they get the win.
Alabama is currently a 13-5-point favorite over Florida State, per BetMGM Sportsbook. Kickoff for their contest is set for 3:30 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
