Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores addresses Minkah Fitzpatrick trade speculation
Miami was the laughingstock of the NFL in Week 1 as the Dolphins lost to the Ravens 59-10 and the fallout from that loss has been worse than you may have expected.
According to Pro Football Talk, several Dolphin players immediately requested to be traded from Miami following the opening-season loss to Baltimore. Following that news, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting Minkah Fitzpatrick is among those interested in leaving Miami.
The Dolphins selected Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and is viewed by many as the team’s most promising young player on the roster.
Following this news, first-year Miami head coach Brian Flores was asked about the speculation on Friday.
“My focus right now is on Minkah going out there and this team going out there and giving their best performance on Sunday. That’s kinda where I’m at in my thought process,” Flores said during his most recent press conference.
When asked a follow-up question regarding if the team is attempting to trade Fitzpatrick, Flores did not deny that report but was not willing to give much specific information.
“I would say, there’s — those conversations… or any conversations that we have as an organization, between [Miami Dolphins GM] Chris [Grier] and myself, and ownership, those conversations are confidential,” Flores continued. “My thoughts right now, Minkah is playing on Sunday. He has a big role in the game. It’s a big game for us and we are motivated to play Sunday.”
Fitzpatrick is currently practicing with the team.
