The Mississippi State Bulldogs played an important role in the greatest weekend of Mississippi football in history, trouncing the Texas A&M Aggies 48-31 to improve to 5-0 on the season.
The Aggies were one of five teams ranked in the top eight of last week’s AP Poll to fall on Saturday, leaving plenty of room for Mississippi State to move up in the rankings and reap the rewards of its victory.
The Bulldogs did just that, moving all the way up to No. 6 in Sunday’s Amway Coaches’ Poll and No. 3 in the new Associated Press Poll, although they share that No. 3 spot with cross-state rival Ole Miss, which beat top 10 Alabama on Saturday.
This week represents the Bulldogs’ highest ranking in either poll so far this season, as they are one of three SEC West teams ranked in the top 10 and one of seven SEC teams ranked in the top 25 of both polls.
The Bulldogs now turn the page from the big win over A&M and will focus their attention on the No. 2 Auburn Tigers, who visit Starkville next weekend for another epic West division showdown. ESPN’s College GameDay will also be in town to host the weekly pregame show from the Junction.
