Mississippi poised to allow sports betting within weeks following Supreme Court ruling

The Magnolia State appears poised to become the first SEC state to allow sports betting following Monday’s ruling from the Supreme Court, which left it up to individual states to decide whether or not to legally offer sports gambling following years of restrictions.
In fact, according to Geoff Pender of the Clarion-Ledger, Mississippi passed a law permitting sports gambling back in 2017. The law could not legally go into effect until after the Supreme Court made its ruling, which finally happened on Monday. New Jersey and West Virginia have made similar laws, expediting the process in those states, as well.
Pender reports that the wise foresight of Mississippi could potentially bring legalized sports betting to the state’s casinos in 45 days. That specific length of times comes via Mississippi gambling officials.
