Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has landed a big prospect from the 2017 class. And when we say “big,” we mean that quite literally.

James Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 345-pound athleteย from Pascagoula, Miss., announced his decision to commit to the Bulldogs on Wednesday morning after receiving an offer during an unofficial visit to Starkville this weekend.

โ€œHe has God-gifted ability,โ€ said Jackson’s high school coach, Lewis Sims, per The Clarion-Ledger. โ€œHe can squat more than 600 pounds and competes as a power-lifter. He has brute force and will only get better.โ€

Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports, Jackson is a two-way player at both offensive and defensive line, reportedly exceeding more than 200 snaps in a single game as a junior in 2015. That’s a lot of time on the field for someone of his size and stature; he’s expected to line up on the d-line for the Bulldogs.

โ€œJames has a great personality, has been one of our leaders on both sides of the ball and academically he is above a 3.0,โ€ Sims said. โ€œHe is such a pleasant kid to be around and we are real proud that he is joining Bulldogs Nation.โ€

Jackson becomes the seventh member of Mississippi State’s class of ’17.
