Mississippi State added to its 2020 recruiting class when it plucked the nation’s top-ranked junior college inside linebacker.
Tyrus Wheat, a native of Amite, Louisiana, comes from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He’s 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds. He counted eight offers, including several from across the SEC, according to the 247 Sports Composite.
Wheat’s addition means the Bulldogs have 19 commitments in a class that’s ranked No. 8 in the SEC. He’s considered a 3-star recruit and the 11th-ranked player in the junior college ranks. At Copiah-Lincoln, Wheat played some safety, and was active near the line of scrimmage.
