Will Bednar’s incredible summer continues. The Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 College World Series is now a member of the San Francisco Giants organization.
Bednar was taken by the Giants with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. MLB.com lists the pick’s value at $4.04 million.
The MLB Network broadcast noted that Bednar was picked well above his MLB.com ranking of the No. 32 player in the 2021 draft class. Bednar’s draft stock was undoubtedly boosted by his superb showing in Omaha.
Bednar pitched three times in the CWS, posting an incredible line of 18.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 6 BB, 26 K. Bednar notably struck out 15 in a June 20 win over Texas. In the decisive third game of the CWS finals, Bednar tossed six no-hit innings against Vanderbilt.
On the season, Bednar pitched 92.1 innings, posting a 3.12 ERA with 139 Ks with a 9-1 record over 19 appearances (16 starts).
