Mississippi State had its playoff chances spoiled in the Egg Bowl on Saturday, and as a result they took a tumble in the rankings released Saturday. The Bulldogs dropped to No. 10 in both the Amway Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 following their 31-17 loss to Ole Miss.

Mississippi State had been ranked in the top five since Week 8, when they jumped to No. 1 in the polls following a blowout win over then-No. 2 Auburn. The Bulldogs took the second-biggest fall in the coaches poll, falling six spots. They also dropped six spots in the AP poll.
This year marks Mississippi State’s highest ranking in the final regular season polls since 1940, when they finished No. 9.
