How torn was Starkville linebacker Willie Gay during his recruitment? He claims he was silently committed to another program before ultimately picking Mississippi State on National Signing Day.

You could excuse several schools for getting excited about Gay’s commitment: At one point he was an Ole Miss commit, at another point he said publicly Michigan was his leader and he now admits he was silently committed to LSU.

It’s no wonder both LSU thought they would land Gay, he told them himself he was coming at one point and had to inform the coaching staff he had changed his mind:

Tough break for LSU, as the Tigers will be forced to face Gay the next three to four years. Adding to LSU’s woes is the fact linebacker is one of the team’s biggest recruiting needs.
