Mississippi State (7-3) now has dropped three games to SEC West opponents, topped by a crushing home defeat against the conference’s best team in Alabama.

Despite the 31-6 loss to the Tide on Saturday, the Bulldogs remain one of the 25 best teams in the country.

The Coaches Poll ranked coach Dan Mullen’s team at No. 25, tied with Ole Miss. Each team received exactly 70 points. The Associated Press slotted the team as the fourth-highest vote-getter in the “others receiving votes” category.

Mississippi State now plays at Arkansas, which just dominated LSU, and then against the Rebels in the Egg Bowl. Including the bowl game, the team likely needs to finish 2-1 to retain a Top 25 spot in the final polls.

But considering the SEC media projected this group to finish last in the SEC West, a chance at a 5-3 SEC record remains pretty enticing.
