Mizzou fans rip St. Louis Dome on social media for awful TV optics
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Mizzou and Memphis are squaring off in a “neutral-site game” on Saturday night at The Dome in St. Louis.
I put “neutral-site game” in quotation marks, as St. Louis is overwhelmingly Mizzou country, and the fans in attendance reflect that.
But making any fans watch games at The Dome is a bad move, as it looks like it hasn’t been taken care of since the Rams left for Los Angeles.
Let’s just say many fans who are watching the game on TV had a lot to say about the optics of the turf on social media. Here’s a sampling of that reaction:
The City of St Louis needs to set “The Dome” on fire and collect insurance. That thing looks ROUGH on TV. #mizzou #stlouis

If St. Louis wants to bill itself as a football town or try and convince the NFL to give us a team, maybe the Dome can get better turf? The field at the Mizzou vs. Memphis game looks horrible.

@Ben_Fred Lots of people talking about the awful, old, faded turf for the Mizzou game at the Dome. Never mind the TWA seats and darkness. Not sure this is the publicity Stl football is seeking. Yipes.

The glare from the halogen lights on the turf at The Dome in Saint Louis is making the Mizzou v Memphis game look horrible on TV.
No way ESPN will allow another game in STL after this.

Did The Dome move its field half a yard to the right, then repaint the turf? All of the old yard lines and numbers are still visible. Looks awful. #mizzou https://t.co/FT08TyAEGm

St Louis dome operators should be ashamed – the field looks like shit.#Mizzou

I hate the look of college football in a dome

When they re-painted the lines at The Dome, it appears they shifted the entire field by like 18 inches. Why? #Mizzou

I don’t think the Dome turf has been taken care of since Jeff Fisher was patrolling the sidelines here

That turf at the dome looks like it’s from 1988 #mizzou

The turf yard in the Brady’s backyard looks better than the field in the #mizzou game against Memphis in the Dome at America’s center.
Well done St Louis! pic.twitter.com/3vm9zs6NMs— Brad Zieren (@bradzieren) September 24, 2023
Mizzou used to play Illinois in an annual rivalry game at The Dome. But if the turf is going to look like this moving forward, it might be worth it to look into using Busch Stadium as a venue.
If college football games can be played at Wrigley Field, Busch should have plenty of room.
