Mizzou is leaving Rocky Top with an upset victory thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from way downtown.

It was Tigers ball in the final seconds, with the Volunteers leading 85-83. DeAndre Gholston launched a deep 3-pointer with more than 1 second left on the clock. It turns out he didn’t need to dribble any closer, as the 3-pointer went in, giving Mizzou an 86-85 win over No. 6 UT.

For the Vols, it’s the second time this week they’ve fallen on a buzzer-beater. Vanderbilt’s Tyrin Lawrence hit an open 3-pointer to secure the 66-65 win in Nashville on Wednesday night.

Tennessee had overcome a 17-point deficit in the 2nd half. It was 44-32 Mizzou at the half and the Tigers extended that lead to 49-32 before Rick Barnes’ squad rallied. UT’s largest lead of the game was 76-70.

Gholston made the most important shot of the night, but he wasn’t MU’s leading scorer. Kobe Brown finished with 21 points and a team-high 5 rebounds, while Gholston had 18 points. D’Moi Hodge (14 points) and Sean East II (17 points) also finished in double figures for Dennis Gates’ team. Tennessee’s Tyreke Key led all scorers with 23 points.
