Nate Oats reportedly hiring NBA assistant to Alabama coaching staff

Nate Oats had to replace key pieces of his Alabama coaching staff this season. As of Saturday, Oats reportedly has one replacement for his assistant coaching staff lined up.
According to Jonathan Givony with ESPN, the Crimson Tide are hiring New Orleans Pelicans assistant Ryan Pannone. Pannone’s experience as a coach includes time overseas as well as serving as head coach of New Orleans’ G League affiliate.
According to Givony, Pannone spent 3 seasons coaching the Pelicans’ G League team and previously spent time as an assistant, head coach or staff member in Angola, Israel, Germany, China, Korea and Slovakia. Pannone also spent time at the junior college and high school levels in the US.

After an impressive season that led to the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, Oats’ program is dealing with significant turnover in the offseason. A number of key players have declared for the 2023 NBA Draft while a trio of Oats’ assistants has left to take head coaching jobs around the country.
We’ll see how the Crimson Tide look heading into the 2023-24 season with a new staff and new-look roster for Oats.
