Nate Oats and his Alabama team have the look of a potential Final Four team and a national title contender.
The Crimson Tide are currently ranked No. 4 in the country, but that isn’t even the highest ranked team in the state of Alabama.
Their biggest rival Auburn is currently ranked the No. 1 team in the country, and a team that also looks like a title contender. The 2 teams play on February 15 and March 8, but Oats said the team has bigger goals than winning a regular season matchup against the Tigers.
“Our goal is not to beat Auburn — I mean, that’s embedded in the ultimate goal,” Oats told the media on Monday. “Our goal is to win championships. The SEC regular season championship is one of them. We’re gonna have to beat them to win it. In order to beat them, we’re gonna have to be playing our best basketball. “I didn’t think we played our best basketball against LSU. We played good enough to beat LSU, but not good enough to beat some other teams that are gonna be on our schedule.”
The Crimson Tide are currently 17-3 on the season, but have a challenging test coming up on the road at No. 14 Mississippi State on Wednesday night.
