Is it easier to make the College Football Playoff than win the SEC?
For Alabama and Georgia, that appears to be the case, according to ESPN’s Nate Silver on his fivethirtyeight.com web site.
The Bulldogs have a 25 percent chance of making the playoff, and just a 22 percent chance of winning the SEC, which is widely believed to be with a win over Alabama.
For its part, Alabama has a 56 percent chance of winning the conference, 66 percent chance of making the playoff and a 27 percent chance of winning the national title. The interactive site also drops Alabama’s chances of winning the conference to 27 percent if it loses this week to Texas A&M. That would also drop the odds of making the playoff to 37 percent, and the national title to 12 percent.
The third national contender from the SEC, Auburn, is listed as having a 13 percent chance of winning the SEC and 11 percent for making the CFP.
