The Georgia Bulldogs didn’t fare too well on the court last season, but freshman guard Anthony Edwards had a big season, winning the SEC’s Freshman of the Year award.

In 32 games, he averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per contest.

He declared for the 2020 NBA Draft after the season, and that was a smart move, as he was chosen with the No. 1 overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

Now, he’ll join a team with former Kentucky big man Karl-Anthony Towns and guard D’Angelo Russell. Edwards figures to slide in at the 2 spot in the lineup. He’ll try to help the team make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Edwards has shown he’s one of the most-athletic players in the draft. He can throw down highlight reel dunks, make shots from anywhere on the court and sees the court well. He needs to be more consistent from three-point range and work on improving his defense to become a true star in the NBA.

Georgia went 16-16 overall, with a disappointing 5-13 record in SEC play. Now, we’ll see if Edwards can help his new team turn things around as a rookie this year. How he fits in with the Timberwolves remains to be seen.
