NCAA Baseball Tournament schedule for Sunday’s games featuring SEC teams

It’s another day of win or go home for several SEC teams, who are facing elimination, or the chance to reach the regional final game this evening, and play for a chance to reach the Super Regional round.

There were plenty of heroics on Saturday.

Late in the evening, No. 1 Arkansas advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 win over No. 20 Nebraska. Matt Goodheart led the Razorbacks with a home run and two RBIs.

Arkansas will play the winner of Nebraska-NJIT on Sunday evening.

Vanderbilt starter Jack Leiter put on a great performance and the Commodores took advantage of multiple Georgia Tech errors and then hung on Saturday to win 4-3 at Hawkins Field. Vanderbilt will now face Georgia Tech or Indiana State.

There were plenty of Vol bombs on Saturday, too. Five home runs and a solid postseason debut from starting pitcher Blade Tidwell gave No. 3 seed Tennessee a 9-3 victory over Liberty at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Saturday night.

Giovanni DiGiacomo single up the middle past a diving infielder for Central Connecticut State to lead LSU to a 6-5 walk-off victory in Eugene, Oregon. It was the fifth walk-off win for LSU this season.

Ole Miss’ Doug Nikhazy powered a 4-3 win over Florida State as he tied Ole Miss’ single-game record with 16 strikeouts and moved to fourth all-time on the Rebels’ single-season strikeout chart. After 7 strong innings, Nikahzy gave way to Taylor Broadway, who recorded his 15th save of the season.

Mississippi State scored a 16-4 win over VCU as the Bulldogs produced 14 hits, 14 RBIs, three home runs and nine runs scored in the sixth inning. Mississippi State will play the winner of VCU-Campbell on Sunday.

For Alabama, starter Dylan Smith picked up the win in a complete game effort as the Crimson Tide downed Rider, 3-1, in the elimination round of the NCAA Ruston Regional on Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks lost to Old Dominion, 2-1, in the winner’s bracket game. Thomas Farr pitched a season-high 7 2/3 innings struck out four and allowed five hits and two runs with three walks. Joe Satterfield drove in South Carolina’s run with a sacrifice fly to center.
