Since March, college football programs haven’t been able to conduct in-person or on-campus recruiting with high school players during the outbreak of COVID-19, and Wednesday evening, the NCAA announced that coaches won’t be able to hit the road recruiting until at least July 1.

In a statement released Wednesday night, the NCAA announced that the dead period has been extended through June 30.

“The Division I Council Coordination Committee extended the recruiting dead period through June 30,” the statement read. “The committee will review the dead period dates on May 27 and could extend the dead period at that time.”

On Tuesday, the NABC proposed that the dead period be extended through July; however, the NCAA is only extending it through June at this point. Obviously, that could change.

Most SEC schools have already announced that they plan to hold on-campus classes this fall, which means that college football will likely happen in one form or another, and LSU athletic director Scott Woodward is hopeful that football players can return to campus in June.
