NCAA grants immediate eligibility to Florida WRs Van Jefferson, Trevon Grimes
Dan Mullen’s first Florida offense just (officially) added two more weapons to use this fall.
Florida has announced that the NCAA has granted immediate eligibility to both Van Jefferson and Trevon Grimes for the upcoming season. The Gators are set to begin fall camp this weekend.
However, while the NCAA has granted Jefferson his eligibility, it should be noted that Florida still needs to be granted a waiver from the SEC for Jefferson to play this season. The SEC has issued similar waivers this offseason.
Jefferson, a transfer from Ole Miss, and Grimes, a transfer from Ohio State, would both have had to sit out the season if the NCAA did not grant them waivers to play this season.
In two seasons at Ole Miss, Jefferson racked up 91 receptions for 999 yards and four touchdowns. Grimes was far less accomplished at Ohio State, playing in only two games but he was a highly-regarded four-star recruit in the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Dan Mullen offered up the following statement following the news:
“I’m excited for Trevon and Van. We appreciate the NCAA’s understanding in both situations, and are thankful to the UAA’s administration and compliance staff for their role in helping guide Trevon, Van, their families and our coaching staff through this over the past six-plus months.”
