NCAA places Oregon athletic department on probation for violations in several sports, including football

The NCAA on Wednesday handed down a two-year probation for Oregon’s athletic department in response to violations committed across multiple sports.
The most serious offenses stemmed from the men’s and women’s basketball team and women’s track and field team, though the Ducks football program was charged with a minor violation.
According to a Division I Committee on Infractions panel, Oregon’s football program “gained a recruiting advantage when it impermissibly displayed personalized statistics of visiting recruits during unofficial and official visits on an electronic board” in 2016. The Ducks ultimately self-reported the violation after the Pac-12 made them aware they were potentially committing a NCAA rules violation.
Further penalties were assigned to the other three programs, but Oregon’s football team came away unscathed by the NCAA.
