Recruiting is the name of the game in college football, as you can’t compete for national titles without replenishing your roster with elite high school athletes every year.

However, recruiting is a murky world, and there are plenty of traps even those with good intentions can fall into.

On Wednesday, the NCAA tabled a proposal that would have limited the number of people who could be involved in on-campus recruiting events to 30. According to NCAA.com, there was a lot of confusion among coaches about who would be part of the 30 and who would be exempt:

“I went to the American Football Coaches Association meeting, and there were a lot of questions about how this was going to work,” said Bob Bowlsby, the chair of the oversight committee and commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. “The coaches wanted to know who was going to be included, how they would be certified and who was exempted.”

This is indeed a tricky issue, and one that will need a lot of discussion before it is implemented.

It’s easy to see why the NCAA would want to limit the number of parties involved in on-campus recruiting, but it’s going to be easier said than done.
