Paul Mainieri and his LSU team are headed back to the unfriendly confines of Lindsey Nelson Stadium for an epic SEC, Super Regional matchup in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers advanced to the Super Regionals after defeating Oregon in Eugene, 9-8 during Monday night’s elimination game.

Now the Tigers are set to return to the stadium that Mainieri called out for its ‘nasty fans’ after Tennessee swept LSU previously this season.

“It was an extremely hostile environment. Nasty fans, nasty. They were into Tre’ Morgan’s head,” Mainieri said during an appearance on ESPN Baton Rouge 104.5 FM radio program Off The Bench. “I mean, they were on him from the moment he walked out on that field. It was a difficult situation.

“The umpires, there were a lot of calls that went against us and they were having to deal with that. The other team was not handling things with a lot of class, quite frankly. It was an environment that those kids were in for the very first time and it was very difficult.”

Here is a clip of Mainieri’s comments.

Now LSU is set to return to Tennessee with a slot in the College World Series on the line.

Here is the schedule for the upcoming LSU-Tennessee series:

  • Saturday, June 12, 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2
  • Sunday, June 13, Noon ET OR 3 p.m. ET on ESPN2 OR ESPNU
  • Monday, June 14, 4 p.m. ET OR 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 OR ESPNU (if necessary)
