Nebraska entered Saturday looking for a marquee win under coach Matt Rhule as the Cornhuskers were hosting Michigan in the B1G opener for both teams. It was a competitive first half, and the Wolverines led 17-10 with just a few seconds remaining in the half.
The Cornhuskers were facing a fourth-and-11 from their own 48. They had been looking to run the clock out on the half and go into the locker room in a 1-possession game. But Michigan sat on its timeouts and allowed the Huskers to hold onto the ball until the final second.
Rather than punting away, NU decided to try a Hail Mary and steal a score. Quarterback Dylan Raiola was able to get outside the pocket and hit wide receiver Jacory Barney Jr. for a 52-yard touchdown.
That was the second touchdown pass of the day for Raiola, with Barney on the receiving end of both. There were numerous big plays in the first half, as all 4 touchdowns were at least 26 yards.
Michigan running back Justice Haynes earlier in the quarter took a run 75 yards to put the Wolverines up 17-10 with 1:51 remaining.
The Wolverines played Saturday’s game without head coach Sherrone Moore, as he is serving the final game of a suspension.
