A preseason injury is likely to keep former Auburn defender Brandon King sidelined for the 2019 NFL season.
The New England Patriots have placed King on injured reserve, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. King had to be carted off the field in New England’s Thursday preseason game. The Boston Globe reports that he suffered a torn quadriceps.
King is likely out for the 2019 season unless he receives an injury settlement and release. The former Tiger is one of the NFL’s more unique stories. The junior college transfer was a reserve for two seasons at Auburn, but his special teams contributions earned him a roster spot (and extension this offseason) with the Patriots. Core special teams players are a rarity on NFL 53-man rosters.
The Patriots have waived DE/OLB Keionta Davis and placed core special teamer Brandon King on injured reserve.
