The second stint in New England for former Alabama DB Cyrus Jones lasted shorter than the first. The Patriots announced Saturday that they had released the former Crimson Tide defender.

Jones was originally drafted by New England in the second round (No. 60 overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He contributed as both a defensive back and returner as a rookie, but spent the 2017 season on injured reserve.

Before the 2018 season started, New England cut Jones at the end of training camp. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 3, but came back to New England when the Patriots signed him to the 53-man roster on Sept. 19.

While it’s tough to be cut again, there’s an evident silver lining as the Patriots have shown they’re not opposed to bringing him back.

This season, Jones has played in two games, recording one tackle and returning five punts for 45 yards.
