Matt McMahon is in place as the new men’s head basketball coach at LSU. Now, he’s trying to fill his staff in Baton Rouge.
According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, McMahon has landed the first piece for his coaching staff and is finalizing a deal to bring Cody Toppert on board. Toppert has been a member of Penny Hardaway’s Memphis staff since 2019.
Memphis assistant Cody Toppert is finalizing a deal to go to LSU, source told @Stadium. Nice first step for Matt McMahon on his staff. Toppert is an ex-NBA guy who also has recruiting ties – especially in the south.

Toppert’s coaching experience includes stops around the NBA’s G League and as an assistant for the Phoenix Suns from 2018-19. He should be a nice addition for McMahon to begin his tenure at LSU.
The news of Toppert’s reported deal comes on the same day as reports of multiple Level I and Level II infractions for Penny Hardaway and Memphis basketball.
