NFL.com’s analytics-based Round 1 2020 NFL mock draft features 17 SEC stars

The 2020 NFL Draft is a few weeks away, but with the NFL Combine over, mock drafts are popping up left and right.
Recently, NFL.com analyst Cynthia Frelund put together an interesting data-driven mock draft. This draft, which can be found here, doesn’t try to predict what teams will actually do. Rather, it uses analytics to predict which players will help each team maximize its ability to win games.
As you can see below, a whopping 17 SEC players are projected to go in Round 1:
- No. 3 — Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn — Detroit Lions
- No. 5 — Joe Burrow, QB, LSU — Miami Dolphins
- No. 6 — Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama — Los Angeles Chargers
- No. 9 — Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina — Jacksonville Jaguars
- No. 10 — Andrew Thomas, OL, Georgia — Cleveland Browns
- No. 11 — Jedrick Wills Jr., OL, Alabama — New York Jets
- No. 12 — Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama — Las Vegas Raiders
- No. 14 — K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU — Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- No. 15 — Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama — Denver Broncos
- No. 19 — Patrick Queen, LB, LSU — Las Vegas Raiders
- No. 20 — CJ Henderson, CB, Florida — Jacksonville Jaguars
- No. 21 — Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama — Philadelphia Eagles
- No. 23 — Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama — New England Patriots
- No. 24 — Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU — New Orleans Saints
- No. 25 — Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU — Minnesota Vikings
- No. 28 — D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia — Baltimore Ravens
- No. 32 — Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn — Kansas City Chiefs
