ESPN reportedly settles on new ‘Monday Night Football’ booth, network leaving door open for Kirk Herbstreit-Chris Fowler to call NFL games

One way or another, it appears Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler will have the opportunity to call at least one “Monday Night Football” game this upcoming NFL season.
That’s according to sports media insider James Andrew Miller, the author of “Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN,” which chronicles the behind the scenes inner workings of the worldwide leader in sports.
On Friday, Miller reported that ESPN has selected Steve Levy, Brian Griese and Louis Riddick to serve as the new “Monday Night Football” broadcast team. If you are unaware, ESPN always features a double-header of “Monday Night Football” to start the season with two games featured during the first Monday of the season.
Levy, Griese and Riddick are slated to host the first “Monday Night Football” game this season while Herbstreit and Fowler are currently slated to host the second matchup, according to Miller’s reporting.
However, Miller does note “if college football season is cancelled, this could change.”
It’s not completely clear what would change if the college football season is canceled but it appears Miller is suggesting Herbstreit and Fowler could be promoted to the No. 1 slot on “Monday Night Football” if there are no college football games for the two GameDay veterans to work this fall.
