It’s an end of an era in Cincinnati as the Bengals have made the tough decision to release veteran lineman Geno Atkins.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced the news on Friday.
Ever since being selected by Cincinnati in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Atkins has been a stalwart of the Bengals defensive line. Following his selection by the franchise, Atkins has made 161 appearances and 134 starts for the Bengals.
During that time, Atkins has racked up 384 tackles, 75.5 sacks, and 172 quarterback hits. Atkins was named a Pro Bowl selection eight times and First-Team All-Pro twice during his 11 seasons in Cincinnati.
While he’s been a force for the Bengals for the better part of a decade, Atkins appeared in just eight games and made one tackle during the 2020 season.
That lack of availability came after Atkins appeared in at least 14 games for six consecutive seasons in Cincinnati.
