Masks will be required for fans attending NFL games this fall, Mercedes-Benz Stadium announces limited capacity for games
The Atlanta Falcons announced two notable news items on Wednesday, featuring one that could specifically affect the upcoming college football.
According to the Falcons, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be limited to 10,000-20,000 fans per game this season. The team cites plans to reduce capacity as keeping with state and local requirements as well as the NFL and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) social distancing guidelines.
Considering there are several college games set to be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, it’s safe to assume the same rules would apply to those games.
Georgia is scheduled to open the season against Virginia in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, while Auburn is set to face North Carolina in the stadium during Week 2 of the season. The 2020 SEC Championship Game is also set to be played in the Atlanta-based stadium.
Limiting the capacity of the stadium wasn’t the only news the Falcons dropped on Wednesday. Citing NFL protocols, all ticketholders must wear face covering at all times once inside the stadium.
That may not be something enforced when college football games are played in the stadium but it’s worth monitoring.
According to Brian McCarthy of the NFL, face coverings will be required at all NFL games in 2020, not just by the Falcons.
