Former Ole Miss star D.K. Metcalf may have been one of the more underrated breakout rookies in the NFL last season, but that may have just been a taste of what he has to offer.
That is the opinion of NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager, who pegged Metcalf as the second-year receiver who will make the biggest leap this season.
“I’ve got a hobby this August, this entire month,” Schrager said. “It’s looking at Seattle beat reporters’ Twitter feeds so I can get grainy footage of DK Metcalf ‘Mossing’ dudes every day in practice.
“DK Metcalf is only going to get better. Russell Wilson has been raving about him. I promise if you go to some of these Seahawks-specific Twitter handles, like Joe Fann is the NBC Sports Seahawks reporter, he’s got great videos of what Metcalf is doing on a daily basis. Guys, I love Chris Carson, I love Russell Wilson, but this might be the year of DK Metcalf in Seattle.”
Metcalf made 58 catches for 900 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season in 2019. He had the most targets of any rookie (100), along with the second-most receptions and third-most receiving yards.
In the postseason, he got even better. In his playoff debut against the Eagles, Metcalf broke the NFL rookie record with 160 receiving yards. Over his two starts last postseason, Metcalf totaled 11 receptions for 219 yards and a touchdown.
