Kwon Alexander’s time in New Orleans appears to be coming to an end as the Saints are reportedly planning on cutting the former LSU standout.

This decision comes after the Saints acquired Alexander last season at the trade deadline from the 49ers in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso and a conditional fifth-round pick.

Alexander made seven total appearances for the Saints last season and five for the 49ers. He suffered a season-ending injury late in December in a win over the Minnesota Vikings, which resulted in missing the final three games of the season.

Now comes word from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport that Alexander is on his way out in New Orleans.

“The Saints are expected to release LB Kwon Alexander in the coming days, source said, a move that saves them more than $13M against the salary cap with no dead money. Alexander is recovering from a torn Achilles, but will be ready for the start of training camp,” Rapoport reported on Wednesday.

During his six seasons in the NFL, Alexander has racked up 471 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and seven interceptions. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after making 167 tackles in three seasons at LSU.
