The NFL has released a statement on a few officials supposedly asking for former Texas A&M WR and Buccaneers star Mike Evans’ autograph Sunday.
The NFL said that the officials were in fact not asking for autographs, but failed to comment further on the matter. For what it’s worth, it’s fair to assume that’s what officials are doing in the below video:
The NFL is reviewing the incident involving side judge Jeff Lamberth and line judge Tripp Sutter, I’m told.
The NFL-NFLRA CBA specifically says game officials “shall not… ask players, coaches or any other team personnel for autographs or memorabilia.” pic.twitter.com/2suFfK3MWL

This is the statement that the NFL released Tuesday, per Tom Pelissero.
“After speaking with the individuals involved, we have confirmed that the postgame interaction between Jeff Lamberth, Tripp Sutter and Mike Evans did not involve a request by the game officials for an autograph,” the NFL’s statement read. “Both Lamberth and Sutter have been reminded of the importance of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety when interacting with players, coaches, and club staff on gameday – including during the pregame and postgame time periods.”
We’re not sure the NFL world will be sold by this claim, though it’s likely the officials were just asking Evans to sign game notes.
