NFL rookie premiere gives first look at Jaxson Dart in New York Giants uniform
Jaxson Dart will wear No. 6 with the New York Giants.
On Saturday, the NFLPA held its Rookie Premiere photoshoot where first-year players suited up for the first time with their new NFL squads. It might take Dart some time to see the field in the regular season, but fans seemed excited nonetheless to see their latest first-round pick.
New York selected Dart with the 25th overall pick in last month’s NFL Draft. The Giants traded 3 picks to the Houston Texans to move back into the first round to select the former Ole Miss passer. Despite the early selection, Dart is expected to go into the season as the Giants’ No. 3 quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
Dart took part in the Giants’ rookie minicamp last week, and he was the only draft pick who participated in 7-on-7 drills.
“He was prepared,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said last week. “He put a lot of time and effort into it. I got a lot of appreciation for how he’s gone about short amount of time his business, and that’s what’s most important is how we can get him to a routine, meeting with players extra, having walkthroughs at the hotels, communication.
“In terms of where he threw the ball – and I mean we’re not running any exotic coverage or having a pass rush or pressure – so there’ll be time to develop that. But what we’ve asked him to do and how he’s gone about his business as a young pro at that position is important.”
The Giants open their season on the road on Sept. 7 against the Washington Commanders.
