Returning for another Super Bowl run: Tampa Bay resigns running back Leonard Fournette
Tampa Bay is fully committed to making a run at winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
Not long after the Bucs won Super Bowl 55 by beating Kansas City 31-9, Tom Brady restructured his contracts to help Tampa Bay keep its roster intact.
As a result, linebackers Shaquil Barrett and Lavonte David were resigned, along with tight end Rob Gronkowski and kicker Ryan Succop. The team also had enough cap room to turn around and franchise tag receiver Chris Godwin this offseason.
Now comes word, from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, that running back Leonard Fournette has agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract to stay with the team.
Fournette joined the Bucs last offseason after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. While he wasn’t used as a key element of the offense like he was during his time in Jacksonville, Fournette was instrumental during the team’s playoff run that included a win in the Super Bowl.
During the team’s four-game postseason run, Fournette rushed 64 times for 300 yards and three touchdowns and caught 18 passes for 148 yards and another touchdown.
Now he’s set to return for his second season in Tampa hoping to earn his second career Lombardi Trophy in the process.
