The Las Vegas Raiders have fired their head coach, Josh McDaniels, the team announced Wednesday morning.
The firing comes after a 3-5 start to the season and a 6-11 season last year. The breaking point was Monday night’s 26-14 loss against the Detroit Lions that once again saw the Raiders’ offense struggle.
The Raiders also announced they would part ways with general manager David Ziegler.
“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave,” owner Mark Davis said in a statement. “I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”
The Raiders have named Champ Kelly as the Interim General Manager and Antonio Pierce as the Interim Head Coach. Kelly previously served as the Raiders’ Assistant General Manager and Pierce was the team’s linebackers coach.
McDaniels time with the Raiders was his second stint as a head coach in the NFL. He was the Denver Broncos head coach for all of the 2009 season but was terminated part way through the 2010 season after a scandal where McDaniels had a staff member videotape a San Fransisco 49ers practice.
McDaniels was just in his second season with Las Vegas, hired by the Raiders ahead of the 2022 season.
