Louisiana Sports Hall Of Famer and former NFL quarterback Jake Delhomme is a big believer in LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Delhomme, who spent 11 years in the NFL and led the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2003, expressed his admiration for how Nussmeier has handled his collegiate career — especially with the transfer portal being such a common route for quarterbacks.

“I respect him. Let me tell you why. He could’ve left. I just think he did it the right way,” Delhomme told Jacques Doucet of WAFB-TV.

Nussmeier is entering the 2025 season as one of the top QBs in the country. He completed 337 passes for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns last year in his junior campaign, along with 12 interceptions.

Waiting patiently behind 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels has benefited Nussmeier as he heads into his final season in Baton Rouge. Nussmeier has earned the trust of his teammates as a leader, and his loyalty to the program hasn’t gone unnoticed.

LSU football finished the 2024 NCAA season unranked, but there’s a lot to be excited about in Nussmeier and the Tigers as they roll into a pivotal SEC slate to kick off the year.
