Auburn redshirt freshman defensive end Nick Coe has a funny nickname that DC Kevin Steele shared with the media Tuesday: Pickle.

Almost always, high schools don’t have many amenities at practice like colleges, and in this case, Coe was used to drinking out of a water hose at practice during breaks. And Coe was so surprised by the lavish assortment of goods at Auburn, he couldn’t stop eating pickles, thus giving him the great nickname.

Most often fans don’t get to hear great stories like these. Players don’t usually share with the media, and we all know how reserved coaches are. So, it’s nice to add a human element to the college game.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds, it’s a wonder Coe didn’t put down 10 or more pickles. And if you’re wondering, pickles help reduce cramping.
