Nick Rolovich parted ways from Washington State earlier this week after he declined to get the COVID-19 vaccine, and was denied a religious exemption. Four other assistant coaches were also let go.
Now, Rolovich’s lawyer promises to take legal action against WSU and everyone responsible in the “illegal termination” of his contract.
In a statement provided to KOMO News, attorney Brian Fahling said the religious exemption was denied but indicated the exemption would not have been accommodated even if it were granted. Rolovich’s team also accused WSU of directing campus police to escort the coach to his car immediately after he was fired, saying he was not allowed in his office.
Fahling makes it clear that WSU Athletic Director Pat Chun indicated he would fire Rolovich since “at least early April.”
“Chun’s animus towards Coach Rolovich’s sincerely held religious beliefs, and Chun’s dishonesty at the expense of Coach Rolovich during the past year is damning and will be thoroughly detailed in litigation,” the statement reads.
