Nick Saban issued public comments on Friday morning regarding the rumor that he may not be done coaching.

Saban was asked about whether or not he would consider a return to the sidelines during an appearance on Fox News. Saban initially deflected the question with a joke.

“It’s amazing to me that that came up in the media and the media speaks for you and thinks for you,” Nick Saban said. “I never really had a thought about getting back into coaching until 2 days ago, Miss Terry said I had to run the sweeper in the entire downstairs. So while I was running the sweeper, the thought occurred to me, ‘when you were coaching you had of a heck of a lot better job than this.’ That’s the only time I considered it.”

The former Alabama coach made those comments tongue-in-cheek, but later gave a more serious denial. He said he’s enjoying his work in broadcasting as well as his role in trying to shape the future of college sports.

“There is no opportunity right now that I know of that would [tempt] me to go back to coaching,” Saban said. “I enjoy what I’m doing, I did it for 50 years. I love the relationship with players, I love the competition. But, you know, it’s another station of life now. I enjoy what I’m doing right now and want to continue to do it. To spend more time with my family, my grand children. It’s been really, really good.”

Saban’s potential return to coaching became a prominent storyline at SEC Media Days last week, with many speculating he may have interest in an NFL job. However, it seems Saban, 73, is content to continue with his role College GameDay for the foreseeable future.
