With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC in 2024, the conference is about to get a major shakeup.

With that shakeup comes the changing of football schedules. Each team will have some major changes made to their schedules, which includes getting rid of a few permanent opponents.

As it stands now, each team plays every team in their division every year and has a permanent opponent in the opposite division. For Alabama, that opponent is Tennessee. But the new conference structure means Alabama’s schedule will get a shake up.

On Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference, Nick Saban was asked about the possibility of having LSU as Alabama’s permanent opponent. While he didn’t give an exact answer with his thoughts, he expressed his desire to keep rivalry gams alive in the conference.

“I think as many of these type of rivalry games that we can keep over time is beneficial to the conference and beneficial to the players that play the game,” Saban said. “Whatever you want to call them — that we can, sort of, keep over time is beneficial to the conference and beneficial to the players that play the game.”

Alabama and LSU almost always produces a fun game. Last year, LSU got a tight overtime win. This year, the Tide will be looking for a revenge game that would help their CFP chances greatly.
