Nick Saban on Alabama scheduling more home-and-home series: ‘We are excited about doing this for our fans’
The Crimson Tide have quickly gained the reputation for playing in some of the more high-profile season openers to kick off the start of college football seasons. The 2019 season will be no different, as Alabama is set to travel to Orlando to play Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 1.
While those games can be fun, many college football fans clamor for the return of more interesting home-and-home series. Well, Alabama has received that message loud and clear.
This offseason, the Tide have already announced a future home-and-home series with Notre Dame and on Wednesday officially announced a new home-and-home series with Texas. During his recent appearance on the Paul Finebaum Show, Saban revealed that the games were done in part for the loyal Crimson Tide fans out there.
“We have played in a lot of these neutral site games to start the season so that we could play against a quality opponent early on — that’s worked well for us; but from a fan perspective, we wanted to start to work in some home-and-homes,” Saban said on the show. “We had Penn State home-and-home a few years ago, we’ve got the Texas game, we are working on some other games — I think Notre Dame later on. Maybe some other home-and-homes. We are excited about doing this for our fans and we are still going to play a quality opponent for our football team.”
Credit the program for listening to the requests of their fans and doing something about it. While Alabama does make a ton of money off the neutral site openers, not traveling to away games limits potential road trips that Crimson Tide fans may be interested in attending. Now Alabama fans have the chance to travel to two of college football’s best atmospheres to see their Crimson Tide take the field in a regular season contest.
