Nick Saban at SEC Media Days: Expectations are ‘a premeditated way to create disappointment’

Nick Saban doesn’t believe in expectations when it comes to Alabama football in 2023.
Alabama football’s head coach took the stage at SEC Media Days in Nashville Wednesday to discuss the state of Alabama football heading into the new season. During his opening remarks, Saban mentioned that expectations are, in some way, “a premeditated way to create disappointment.”
In other words, Saban isn’t here to create expectations for the Crimson Tide. Fans and media will laud the Tide as the favorite in the West, perhaps justifiably, but he isn’t touching the rat poison.
#RollTide coach Nick Saban on Alabama’s hype, or lack thereof …
‘I’m not here to create expectations for our team. Lots of people will do that. Expectations in some way are a premeditated way to create disappointment. We need to stay process-oriented, not focused on outcomes.’

Some will say it’s actually the opposite and that creating expectations and fighting to meet them will bring satisfaction rather than disappointment.
