Nick Saban breaks down Jalen Milroe’s performance vs. Texas A&M: He ‘played with a lot of anxiety’

Alabama fans gained a bit more appreciation for Bryce Young this week when the Crimson Tide had to play redshirt freshman backup quarterback Jalen Milroe against the Texas A&M Aggies. Milroe’s performance was still more solid than those of several other signal-callers that took the field this past weekend, but the room for improvement and the fact he simply is not Young was evident.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban weighed in on Milroe’s performance this week, saying that the quarterback “played with a lot of anxiety.”
“I think Jalen played with a lot of anxiety,” Saban told reporters. “I don’t think he allowed himself to let his training sort of guide him.”

Milroe did have some decision-making issues but showed some positives as well as he completed 12-of-19 passes for 111 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception in the narrow 24-20 victory over the Aggies. How things continue to shake out for Alabama at position will be something to watch, but it’s become even more clear how important he is to making this offense tick.
