Nick Saban appeared on the Pat McAfee show on Friday afternoon and covered a number of interesting topics from around the world of college football.

During the segment, one of McAfee’s co-hosts asked Saban about his opinion on Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the tactics he used to fire up his team — and notably the Irish’s offensive line — ahead of last week’s matchup in College Station.

Saban was very complimentary of Freeman and commended him for firing up his team at the right moment.

“I don’t think there’s any question about it,” Saban said when asked if Freeman’s pregame emotions had an impact on Notre Dame’s play. “I love Marcus Freeman. I think, to a large degree, your team sort of reflects your personality to some degree. And when you’ve got a fiery personality and you’re fired up and they know you’re fired up, I mean, that means something to players. Because they feel like you’ve got as much going into it as they do. And they want to play for you.”

Here’s video of Saban talking about Freeman and Notre Dame, which also includes clips of Freeman interacting with his team in the tunnel at Kyle Field:

Notre Dame’s offensive line, much-criticized prior to Week 1, did its job — and then some — in the Irish’s win over Texas A&M. Notre Dame running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price combined to rush for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 carries.

Notre Dame will take on Northern Illinois in Week 2.
