Nick Saban chose a play on defense for the weekly Play of the Game for Alabama following its win over Arkansas.
Saban shared that Alabama sent a defensive back on the split-end side up the side, another defender up the B gap, and then a 3rd defender, who would read the offensive tackle and make adjustments. Then he said Alabama would stem and peel on the other side.
“They’ve got nowhere to go, we’ve got good pressure on the quarterback,” Saban said. “We do mess up the coverage here though. Just so everyone can understand, when we’re in dime, we run with the matchup. So Caleb (Downs) should actually run with his guy here. He can play push-alert with this guy on the 2 off guys, and the corner’s playing his guy. … We should not be spinning in the back end.”
But even though the back end of the defense didn’t exactly execute it as planned, the pressure got to Arkansas and the defense got off the field on 3rd down.
