Nick Saban discusses addition of Jermaine Burton to Alabama WR corps

The transfer of Jermaine Burton from Georgia to Alabama raised a few eyebrows. Burton’s announcement that he was entering the transfer portal came 10 days after the Bulldogs defeated the Crimson Tide to win their first national championship since 1980, and just days later, he would end up committing to the Tide.
And Burton should be a key addition to the Alabama offense and provide Bryce Young another target in the passing game. The soon-to-be junior made 26 catches for 497 yards and 5 touchdowns, including a pair of grabs in the national championship game.
With Burton officially in the fold. Nick Saban talked about what played into Burton’s decision to make the move to Tuscaloosa.
“Jermaine Burton was somebody we recruited out of high school that we thought was a really, really good player,” Saban said on Wednesday. “He had a fairly productive year at Georgia. They have a lot of good players at his position, and he had some production this year. But (he) probably might have seen a better opportunity (here) because we’re a little bit more wide-open and throw the ball more with a good quarterback. That may have been his intention.”
The Tide don’t play the Dawgs in the regular season in 2022, but if history is a good teacher, Burton could very well get a crack at his former team in the SEC Championship in December.
